CHEMICAL EQUATION
CHEMICAL EQUATION:--
A
chemical equation is the symbolic representation of the substance that
undergoes the chemical change during chemical reaction in which reactants and
products are expressed in the form of symbols and formulae.
magnesium + oxygen --------------à Magnesium Oxide
(reactants) (products)
Here, reactants are given on the left-hand side (LHS)
And products are given on the right-hand side (RHS)
Reactants:--
The substances
that undergoe chemical change in the reaction are called as reactants. Here ,
reactants are written in the left hand sided (LHS).
Products:--
The substance
is formed during chemical reaction is known as the products. And the products
are written in the right hand side (RHS).
Point to be noted that the arrow which is pointed
towards the products and shows the direction of the reaction.
The following observations that helps us to
determine the chemical reaction takes place:--
Change in state
Change in colour
Evolution of a gas
Change in temperature
Chemical reaction :--
The transformation of the chemical substance into another chemical
substance is known as chemical reaction.
To write a chemical equation
A chemical equation represents the chemical reaction.
The reactants are written on left-hand side (LHS)
The products are written on the right-hand side (RHS)
And an arrow represents the direction of the chemical
reaction takes place.
Count and compare the number of atoms of each element on
both LHS and RHS.
The equation is balanced if the number of the atoms of each
element is the same on both the sides.
The equation is unbalanced because the mass is not same on
both sides of the chemical equation. Such a chemical reaction is a skeleton
chemical equation for the reaction.
The following symbols are used to describe the physical state of reacting
entities during the reaction :--
The symbol (s) for the solid state
The symbol (l) denotes for the liquid state
The symbol (g) denotes for gaseous state
The symbol (aq) denotes for an aqueous solution
The symbol
( )
denotes for precipitates , which is insoluble in the solution that the
reaction takes place.
